The Protea is a South African flowering plant, also called sugarbush.  Each of these decorative baskets takes 30-50 hours to complete! Dense coils are wrapped in colorful sisal threads using a needle.  Sisal is a type of agave that is locally harvested.  Each basket is meticulously hand crafted by women artisans living in rural eSwatini.

Handwoven by Tintsaba Master Weavers in eSwatini

Your purchase helps women artisans in eSwatini lift themselves out of poverty by providing employment and training, inspiring others in their community to weave a better future for themselves.  Through sales of their products, more than 700 rural Swazi women have received training in literacy, business English, committee structure, health education, and production techniques. Women are trained to become master weavers or managers and receive formal education so they can open bank accounts and manage their finances. A mobile homeopathic clinic also serves rural groups and staff suffering from HIV/AIDS.   ---SERRV International
