Hebron Glass & Ceramics
Phoenician glass is created in the historic West Bank Palestinian city of Hebron. This craft was nearly forgotten until the Natsheh family, of Hebron glass, revived the art in the late 1800's. The distinctive technique has been passed down through generations of family and takes five years to learn. Because the cost of colored glass is high, the Natshehs use recycled soda bottles (like green Coca Cola bottles) as their base raw material. This practice is not only good for the environment, but it keeps their costs down.
Hebron Glass is a symbol of Palestinians culture and is still found in Palestinian homes.
Hebron Glass employs approximately 60 artisans who work in one of three workshops across the city or from their homes.
